Outdoor wedding — answered honestly
The twelve questions couples ask us most often. No sugarcoating, no filler.
1. What happens if it rains?
Each of our three locations has a full weather backup: at Projekt Draussen the 250 m² historic Klause; at Le Bétet the large interior rooms of the château; in Sardinia the covered terraces and interior spaces of the villa. Plan B does not have to be a compromise — it is part of the planning from the outset.
2. Are there enough toilets?
For small events the existing facilities are sufficient (3–4 toilets at each location). From 40 guests upwards we recommend a premium toilet trailer (mirrors, running hot water, ventilation). Cost: €700 to €1,400 for a weekend hire period.
3. What about power for catering and the DJ?
All locations have permanently installed power connections. When running a food truck, a band, and lighting simultaneously it gets tight — for 60+ guests we recommend a quiet mobile generator (inverter technology, approx. 60 dB) as a supplement. We coordinate the setup plan directly with your caterer and sound engineer.
4. Should we expect mosquitoes?
In high summer in Bavaria and southern France: yes, during the evening hours. We use unobtrusive citronella candles and optionally provide a locally sourced, biodegradable insect repellent spray for guests. In Sardinia, the mosquito burden on the coast is significantly lower.
5. Do we need permits?
For venue hire and private events — no, we or the locations handle that. Music licensing for live music or a DJ is the responsibility of the couple/organiser (fee-based, online registration takes around 30 minutes). For symbolic ceremonies outside a register office, nothing needs to be applied for.
6. How long can we celebrate?
Projekt Draussen sits in a protected nature reserve with neighbours: outdoor music ends at 10:00 p.m., after which the party moves inside — the Klause has sound insulation, no fixed indoor end time. Le Bétet: loud music until 2 a.m., then reduced volume. Sardinia: no hard noise limits, but consideration for neighbouring residents from midnight.
7. Can guests stay overnight on site?
Projekt Draussen: 24 sleeping places in the Klause and outbuildings. Le Bétet: the entire château with several rooms. Sardinia: 8 to 12 sleeping places in the villa. Additional guests via nearby guesthouses, B&Bs, or agriturismi (5 to 15 minutes away).
8. How does catering work — can we choose our own caterer?
We work with a curated pool of 4–6 caterers per location, with whom we have established workflows. External caterers are possible, subject to a one-off induction fee (briefing, site walk-through, service orientation). Self-catering or private chefs are also an option.
9. Is there disabled access?
Projekt Draussen: main entrance to the Klause is step-free; the forest clearing is reachable via a paved path. Accessible toilet available in the premium toilet trailer. Le Bétet: ground floor is step-free; upper floor by stairs only. Sardinia: the villa has some steps — please raise this in advance and we will find solutions.
10. How sustainable are the events, really?
We measure the carbon footprint of each event and offset the unavoidable remainder through certified projects. Catering sourcing is over 70 percent regional; floristry works seasonally and without plastic floral foam. More detail in our article on sustainable events at Thrive Outside.
11. What happens if a guest falls ill or is injured?
Every location has a first-aid kit compliant with relevant standards. For larger events we can arrange a paramedic standby on request (in Bavaria approx. €350 for 6 hours). For Sardinia events we hold emergency contacts to local doctors in Palau.
12. How do I book — and when is the deposit due?
Booking is confirmed by mutual written agreement. Deposit: 30 percent on signing, a further 50 percent eight weeks before the event, and the remainder on the day. Provisional holds are kept free of charge for 14 days.
